The start of the Champions League group stages produced some surprising result. Only 1 of the 4 English clubs managed to record a win in their first game, which is the lowest since the competition began, La Liga winners Atlético Madrid also lost to Olympiakos.

Leeds owner to ignore agents

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino has confirmed that he will ignore football agents when making his decision to appoint a new head coach for the championship side.

The club are looking for a new manager following the sacking of former manager Dave Hockaday who was sacked after just 10 weeks in charge.

Leeds owner Cellino told the club website “There are many people in football being mentioned to me and the club.

Rodgers confirms new vice captain

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed midfielder Jordan Henderson as the new vice captain at the club.

The vice captain role has been vacant since Liverpool defender Daniel Agger left the club.

Henderson looked likely to leave Liverpool in 2012 as he was struggling to secure a regular place in the side under Kenny Dalgish.

Following the announcement Rodgers said “Yes, Jordan is our new vice-captain. I have been here a couple of years now and been able to give the decision real thought,”

Liverpool striker out for 3 weeks

Liverpool have confirmed that striker Daniel Sturridge will be out for up to 3 weeks with a thigh injury.

Sturridge was injured whilst on international duty with England and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists the injury could of been prevented.

If Sturridge is out for 3 weeks it could see him miss up to 3 Premier League games including the Merseyside darby, 2 Champions League games and the league cup tie against Middlesbrough.

Injury concern for Arsenal

Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey is a debut for Arsenal’s game against Manchester City on Saturday.

Ramsey limped off in the 89th minute of Wales 2-1 win against Andorra on Tuesday.

It is not yet known how serious the injury is to Ramsey, however reports suggest that Ramsey suffered a twisted ankle.

Following the win against Andorra Wales manager Chris Coleman said ““Aaron got a kick and there was a twist in his ankle.

“It was coming to the end of the game and it was pointless taking a risk with him. 

England ease past Switzerland

England have got their Euro 2016 campaign off to a flying start after beating Switzerland is Basel.

England was without several key players for the game against Switzerland including Liverpool duo Henderson and Sturridge.

Former Manchester United striker and now Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck started upfront for England with Rooney playing in the number 10 role.

Blatter to stand for fifth term

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has confirmed that he will stand for another term as FIFA president.

Blatter who is now aged 78 has already stud for four terms as FIFA president after being elected in 1998.

Blatter had the backing of 5 out of 6 continental bodies, the only body opposing was Europe.

Following the announcement Blatter said “You see a mission is never finished. And my mission is not finished,"

The agent who won this transfer window

The Transfer window is a busy time for all Football Agents, however some agents are busier then others. One agent in particular brokered four of the seven biggest deals worldwide.

The agent brokered four of the biggest deals in the world which included Angel Di Maria, James Rodriguez, Diego Costa and Eliaquim Mangala who was sold for £195m, with the agent taking a cut in each deal. It is reported that this agent made £15.6m from these 4 signings alone.

Premier League round up 30-31 August 2014

This week’s Premier League result sprung some surprises, most noticeably was Premier League champions Manchester City losing to Stoke.

The result of the Chelsea vs. Everton game was also a surprise with 9 goals in this fixture.

Manchester United was held to a goalless draw with new boys Burnley, United are still looking for their first win of the season.

Liverpool’s new striker Mario Balotelli made his debut against Tottenham, although Balotelli did not score he started with a positive performance and missed several good chances.

Football League clubs reduce Agents fees

A report released by the Football League has revealed that clubs have reduced their football agent fees by 17.7% in 2013-2014.

The spending on football agents fees was down by £3.8 million taking the net spending for agents fees to £17.7 million.

Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers spent the most last year on agents fees in the Football League spending just under 2 million pounds. It has also been revealed that 3 clubs in the Football League spent nothing on agents fees.
