Premier League champions still searching for first win

Premier League champions Manchester City suffered their second defeat in the Champions League in four games.

City found themselves 1-0 behind after only 2 minutes of the first half, however 6 minutes later in the 8th minute City defender Yaya Toure equalised for the home side.

CSKA Moscow striker Doumbia scored his second goal of the night in the 34th minute putting the Russian side ahead.

Injury blow for Manchester City

Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov has been ruled out for atleast a month with a calf injury.

Kolarov got injured just before the Manchester derby in the warm up before the game and is likely to miss the next 5 Manchester City games.

It is likely that City left back Gael Clichy will replace Kolarov whilst injured.

City manager Pellegrini said “Kolarov has a muscle injury in his calf, He will be out for at least one month.

"Well, I am not a doctor, but I suppose that."

Sturridge unlikely to feature confirms Rodgers

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that it is unlikely Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will feature against  Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Sturrdige who has been injuried since the end of August with a thigh injury travelled with his Liverpool team mates on Monday evening sparking rumours that the striker could play a part on Tuesday.

Brendan Rodgers said “I brought every player out with us, knowing this game is very important to us,” Rodgers said. “It is a sign that we are very much together, that all the players have travelled, whether injured or fit.

Capital One cup draw

The draw for the Capital One cup 5th Round was made yesterday with several interesting ties formed.

Premier League leaders Chelsea face a difficult away trip to Derby, Liverpool also face a difficult away trip to AFC Bournemouth.

Harry praises team performance

Queens Parks Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has praised his players following their 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Monday.

Prior to yesterday’s game, QPR was bottom of the Premier League with only 1 win in 8 games, however following the win QPR have moved to 19th in the table and only 2 points from safety.

QPR striker Charlie Austin scored both goals to seal QPR’s second win of the season.

Following the game Redknapp said “It was an excellent performance. I thought we did ever so well.

United striker “we can catch Chelsea”

Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie has stated his club can still catch league leaders Chelsea although they are 10 points behind after 9 games.

United and Chelsea was held to a 1-1 draw following a late equaliser from Robin Van Persie, Chelsea took the lead in the 53rd Minute when striker Didier Drogba headed home from a corner.

In the 93rd minute Chelsea right back Ivanovic was sent off for a second bookable offence, from the resulting free kick Robin Van Persie scored the equaliser.

Gerrard hopes for Real Madrid repeat

Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard has urged his team to give it their all and take inspiration from Liverpool’s previous performance against Real Madrid.

In 2009, Liverpool beat Real Madrid 4-0 at Anfield sending the Meseryside club into the Champions League quarter finals.

Gerrard was speaking to the press 24 hours before the game and said “Everyone knows what this club is about and its history and it is very important we keep Champions League football here for as long as we can

Late strike rescues point for united

A late strike from Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind helped secure a point for Manchester United against West Brom.

United found themselves behind after only 8 minutes after a well worked goal between on loan Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom and Sessegnon.

Manchester United Louis Van Gaal made a half time substitute taking off midfielder Herrera and bringing on Fellaini. 2 minutes after half time united found themselves level  following a great strike from Fallaini.

Ferdinand Backs Redknapp

Former Manchester United and now QPR defender Rio Ferdinand has backed his current manager Harry Redknapp after a disappointing start to their Premier League campaign.

QPR are currently bottom with only 1 win in 7 games, but are only 2 points away from safety. QPR host Liverpool at home.

Ferdinand was speaking regarding the pressure Redknapp is under and said “"We are not even in double figures for the amount of games played yet,"

Wilcox named York manager

Former Scunthorpe manager Russ Wilcox has been named the new York manager with Steve Torpey named as his assistant manager.

Wilcox who was sacked only 8 days ago by Scunthorpe takes over from former York manager Nigel Worthington who could only seal 1 win in 12 games.

York chairman Jason McGill told the clubs website We believe Russ is the right person to take this club forward. He has excellent managerial experience and a track record of success in League Two.
