Leroy Sané to join Bayern Munich for £55m

Steal of the transfer summer season, Bayern Munich get their German Winger from Manchester City Leroy Sane for a sum of only £55m!

Sané, who joined City from Schalke in 2016 for £37.1 million, will not be able to play for his new club until next season. The Times understands that Bayern will pay an initial fee of €49 million (£44.8 million), with three add-on clauses that add up to €11 million: one if Bayern win the Champions League with Sané, another if they win the Bundesliga and a third relates to individual player awards.

City had placed a £137 million asking price on Sané a year ago but the club had to lower their demands as he only had a year left on his contract and because the transfer market has contracted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The two sides differ on what Sané will be earning at the German champions. City sources claimed that Sané will earn an annual salary of about £20.1 million — which equates to about £385,000 per week — while reports in Germany stated that the winger’s contract is worth closer to £18 million per year. Either way, City made it clear that they would not pay Sané more than around £10 million, which meant that discussions between the club and the player broke down.

City also had reservations about the player’s injury record. Sané has missed six months of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool in August.
