Newcastle dealt injury blow

Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul is facing a lengthy spell out due to ligament damage which he sustained during international duty.

Krul was on the bench for the Netherlands 2-1 win against Kazakhstan but suffered his injury a day later in training.

A statement released of the clubs website read “Newcastle United have received the results of goalkeeper Tim Krul's scan on Monday.

"It showed ligament damage to his left elbow and Krul will be assessed further by the Magpies' medical staff ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League fixture against Leicester City."

Valdes agent denies report

The football agent of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has denied reports that claims Valdes rejected a trial at Liverpool.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Spanish goalkeeper over the summer but no deal has been forthcoming.

Valdes agent has confirmed that he has had no contact with Liverpool nor Brendan Rodgers and has confirmed they have not rejected any trial offered by Liverpool.

The agent said "Liverpool didn't ask us to train for four days. We haven't rejected it because it [the story] is false,"

Lennon named Bolton manager

Former Celtic manager has been named Bolton manager following the dismissible of Dougie Freedman.

Bolton who are bottom of the championship with 5 points from 11 games sacked their previous manager Dougie Freedman only 10 days ago.

Lennon’s first game will be against fellow strugglers Birmingham on Saturday.

A statement on the clubs website read “Bolton Wanderers are delighted to announce the appointment of Neil Lennon as the club’s new manager.

Slovakia shock Spain

European Champions Spain suffered a shock defeat against Slovakia who beat the champions at home in Zilian.

The home side took the lead against the run of play in the 17th minute when Juraj Kucka’s scored a free kick which deceived Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Spain dominated the rest of the first half but could not break down the Slovakian defence.

Spain found it hard to break down the Slovakian but scored the equaliser in the 82nd minute when striker Paco Alcacer.

Cech to leave if not first choice keeper

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has confirmed that he will leave the club in the near future if he is the second choice keeper to Thibault Courtois.

Cech has found himself on the bench for the majority of Chelsea’s games this season and has confirmed he will be looking for first team football with the European Championships in 2016.

Cech who has been at the club for 10 years and has almost made 500 appearances for the club said “With the European Championships in 2016 and the national team in mind, there is no time for me to sit on the bench and not to play.

Rodgers admits Balotelli was a risk

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted he took a calculated risk when he signed Mario Balotelli from AC Milan.

Liverpool who spent 16 million on Balotelli have failed to see a return on their investment after a slow start from the striker.

Balotelli has failed to score in the Premier League and has only scored 1 goal in 9 games.

"I always said it was about availability and affordability of players," said Rodgers.

Rooney sorry for red card

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has publicly apologised to the fans and his team mates following his red card against West Ham.

Rooney was sent off for kicking out at West Ham midfielder Stewart Downing who was counter attacking for the home side.

Following the game Rooney said “I knew at the time that I misjudged it.

"It is a red card and I don't think it will benefit anyone to appeal against the decision.

It was probably the right decision. I saw the West Ham player making a counter-attack and I tried to break-up the play but I just misjudged it.

Capital One Cup fourth round draw

The draw for the Capital One Cup has been announced with several Premier League clashes being drawn.

Holders Manchester City was drawn against Newcastle, whilst Liverpool was drawn against Swansea and stoke was drawn against Southampton.

Rodgers backs captain

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has back his captain Steven Gerrard following several poor result from Liverpool.

Liverpool who have lost 3 of their opening 5 games find themselves in the bottom half of the table. Many fans and experts have questioned Gerrard’s performances and the new role he is playing in.

However, Rodgers said when being asked is he worried about Gerrard’s form “No concerns whatsoever, no," said Rodgers. "He is a brilliant player for us, really talented. It was a team performance overall on Saturday that just wasn't quite up to scratch.

Rooney criticises united defence

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has criticised his teams defending following Sunday’s 5-3 defeat.

United found themselves 3-1 up after 57 minutes after goals from Van Persie 13 Di María 16 Herrera 57.

Leicester however thought back to stun united with 4 goals in 21 minutes which left new manager Van Gaal stunned

Following the game Rooney said “It’s really disappointing,” he said. “Going 3-1 up especially and then losing the game, it’s hard to take.
