Former Liverpool defender named Brighton manager

Former Liverpool central defender Sami Hyypia has been named the new Brighton manager; Hyypia has signed a 3 year contract with the club.

Hyypia took over from former manager Oscar Garcia who resigned following Brighton’s playoff semi final loss to Darby.

The former Liverpool and Finland international was sacked by German side Bayer Leverkusen in April.

Hyypia said “Brighton are an ambitious club and I am very pleased to have been given this opportunity," Hyypia said.

"I have looked at the club from top to bottom and I am very impressed by what I've seen at all levels."
