FIFA to investigate Suarez bite

FIFA have confirmed that they have opened disciplinary actions against Uruguay and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. Suarez appeared to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The incident happened near the end of the match when Uruguay was 1.0 in front.  It first glance it looks like Suarez had head butted Chiellni. However, the replay shows that Suarez may have bitten Chiellni. Suarez and the Uruguay FA have until 9PM to provide their defence.

Suarez could be banned for upto 2 years from internation football and may also face a domestic ban for his current club Liverpool. The longest ever international ban was for 8 games, the player banned was Italy’s Mauro Tassotti.

A FIFA spokesman said “FIFA can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the player Luis Suarez of Uruguay”

Suarez said following the game “These are things that happen on the pitch and you shouldn't attach so much importance to them.

"I'm very happy to have qualified. We are taking each game as it comes, we know that we're in a difficult situation, we're at our limits now."
