Everton confirm new record signing

Everton have today announced that they have signed Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a 5 year deal for a club record fee of £28 million pounds.

Lakaku who was on loan at Everton last year was eager to join the Merseyside club as Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho stated there was no guarantee he would be in the first team.

Lakaku has become Everton’s all time record signing overtaking fellow country man Fellaini who joined Everton in 2008 for £15 million.

Following the announcement Lakaku said “I am really excited about rejoining Everton. I had a fantastic experience last season and a great relationship with the manager, the chairman, the staff, the players and the fans. I can't wait to get started again and I'm looking forward to a successful season.

"I have a good relationship with the players. This is the place where I belong. I decided quickly I wanted to come back. Here I have the trust of the staff and supporters."

Everton manager Roberto Martinez added “It’s a very significant day in the history of our Club. Signing Rom is every Evertonian’s wish. This is a footballing statement of what we want to do. Rom will never say it but his target should be to become one of the best world-class strikers.

"We know that Romelu is still a young man and the potential that he has is quite unique, and we are desperate to see him enjoying his football and to watch him grow as footballer in the years to come.

"The arrival of Rom is more than just a signing, it's the fruition of a lot of hard work to get the player we wanted. This is a big moment for Everton's history and the perfect way of getting the squad ready for the start of the season."
